Are we making any headway with the #OpenDoorPolicy? What has been the impact of opening the prisons to the public through various stakeholders? Since its inception in 2002, what are the significant gains made to this date? What specific areas need help and interventions by various stakeholders? These form part of the discussions #HappeningNow with various Directors drawn from the Kenya Prisons Service and Faraja Foundation to appreciate the need for #research to investigate the level of engagement of stakeholders and the #kenyaprisonsservice through the #OpenDoorPolicy which resultantly direct programming#kenyavision2030 #TheAfricaWeWant #kenyaprisonsservice #FarajaFoundationCares ... Promoting Offender Rehabilitation and Reintegration Intervention on Hobbies and Handcrafts at Narok Main Prison This morning, the Officer in Charge of Narok Main Prison, SSP Benson Lomeri, paid a courtesy call to Faraja Foundation. With the interests of over 700 inmates, he received a donation of 2 sewing machines and a knitting machine to help the inmates be able to make their own sweaters to cushion them from the adverse effects of the cold season. Further, the donated sewing machines would go a long way in ensuring that inmates gain basic tailoring skills for efficient reintegration upon their release.#skillup #narokgkprison #FarajaFoundationCares ... Curious to learn and practice skills while behind barsInmates drawn from the Nanyuki Command could not help but marvel at how a knitting machine functions. A donation of a knitting machine presented to the institution by Faraja Foundation's Chief Executive Officer, Jane Kuria, HSC was received by inmates from Nanyuki Command headed by Nanyuki Main Prison Officer in Charge, SP Richard Makori and the Officer in Charge Nanyuki Women Prison, Jane Mukundi. This knitting machine will benefit over 1000 inmates from this institution. Some will gain skills and they will be able to have sweaters to cushion them from the cold weather as #July is a cold month.#FarajaFoundationCares#nanyukiprison#kenyaprisonsservice#skillup ... #ThisWeek 44 inmates serving their sentences at Nairobi West Prison graduated as Peer Counselors after an extended duration of skills practice. The inmates appreciated the efforts by Faraja Foundation which saw them attend the 5 day course virtually through technology systems installed at the institution by the Foundation. #virtuallearning has transformed the learning process with many inmates appreciating its use. This course, delivered by Counselors from Faraja Foundation aimed to help the institution reduce the stress levels among inmates during a time when the Covid19 pandemic had created uncertainty in the country. Further, it helps inmates help each other to cope and adjust to the new environment as they serve their sentences.#skillsinprison#capacitydevelopmentprojects #kenyaprisonsservice #NAIROBIwestPRISON ...
